This project aims to boost financial literacy and business planning skills through an edutaining comic book – Naaki: The Chronicles of a Bank Agent.

The series follows the journey of Naaki, a young woman navigating the challenges of running a small and medium-sized business in the agent banking space. Through Naaki’s experiences, mistakes, and triumphs, the series aims to educate and inspire bank agents, small business owners, and entrepreneurs by addressing real-world operational and customer service challenges.

The publication serves as both an entertainment and training tool for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and agent bankers, equipping them with the knowledge needed to operate effectively, enhance customer trust, and maximise business opportunities. Each issue will cover key topics relevant to the industry, offering practical lessons within an entertaining narrative structure. Every month, 30,000 copies of the comic book will be printed and distributed to the bank agents for free. The publication is also free to download for reading or using in financial literacy training sessions by other organisations working with youth entrepreneurs.

While primarily targeting bank agents and merchant networks served by Pebuu, it is expected that Naaki will reach the bank agents’ family members, especially their children, and circulate in their communities, as it has an engaging and portable format. Currently, the comic book is published in English; with time, it will be translated into local languages to reach readers in their mother tongues and other African countries with similar financial literacy challenges and needs.

Inspired by this project, we also launched the One Agent, 10 Trees initiative. By planting 500,000 indigenous trees by 2030 together with the growing bank agent network, their communities, and project partners, we seek to minimise our negative operational impact on the environment and reduce our CO2 footprint. The initiative promotes reforestation and community-led climate action, as well as collective stewardship.
